Cross-cultural management: how to be on the same wavelength with foreign partners

On July 11th, the RANEPA Vice-Rector and Director of IBS-Moscow Business School of RANEPA Sergei Myasoedov told the participants of RANEPA Summer Campus about the basics of cross-cultural management. During the meeting, the participants took on the role of experts, helping to fully explore the topic of cross-cultural communications through the example of specific cultural characteristics of their respective countries.

In the course of international business it is important to establish friendly relations with your business partners. It can be done if you and your partners are on the same wavelength. Sergei Pavlovich described the rule of thumb of cross-cultural management as: ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’ Different cultures interpret time differently: ‘Time is money’ or ‘When God made time, He made plenty of it.’

Sergei Myasoedov closed the meeting with a fascinating video ‘How to do business in Russia.’ The video demonstrated the core principle of cross-cultural management: no book can become a sufficient substitute for your own knowledge of cultural specificities that you gain from friendly communication with foreigners.
