Mamikon Ayrapetyan, who is the research supervisor of the Russian-Italian center of RANEPA, the responsible secretary of Russian-Italian Council on innovations and business at the State Duma Committee on economic policy, innovative development and business, participated in the meeting.
Prior to the 14th Big Russian-Italian joint committee meeting the Chairman of the State Duma, the chairman of the Board of trustees Sergey Naryshkin met with Simone Baldelli the vice-chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian parliament, the deputy co-chairman of the Big Russian-Italian Joint Committee.
"Our country has always valued the evolution of the relationship with Italy", – Sergey Naryshkin emphasized and reminded that the Treaty of Amity and Co-operation was signed in October, 1994. However, the fact that Italy supports anti-Russian sanctions has a negative impact on the character and volumes of trade and economic cooperation between our countries: only during first half of 2015 the volume of trade decreased by 36%, and import from Italy to Russia by 40%. In the meantime sanctions are unilateral actions which aren't not supported by the UN Security Council, the Chairman of the State Duma reminded. It is known that discontent with sanctions policy is being expressed more and more in Italian political circles, Sergey Naryshkin pointed out. He expressed confidence that the visit of the Italian delegation will return a pragmatic and mutually beneficial way of cooperation.
Mr. Baldelli thanked for the invitation and reception, and also noted that the Russian-Italian relationships are being renewed. Simone Baldelli expressed readiness to discuss major political and social and economic problems with the Russian colleagues. "Parliamentary diplomacy is a magnificent means to conduct a dialogue and to hear each other", – he emphasized. The 14th meeting of the Big Russian-Italian Joint Committee was opened by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, the cochairman of the Big Russian-Italian Joint Committee Alexander Zhukov. "Many interests and the position of Russia and Italy on international policy coincide", – he declared.
The participants of the meeting were the chairman of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Alexey Pushkov, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Activity Irina Yarovaya, the coordinator of the deputy group on communications with the parliament of the Republic of Italy Alexander Babakov, the member of the committee of the State Duma on Culture Maria Maksakova-Igenbergs.
The parties agreed on holding the 15th Big Russian-Italian Joint Committee meeting (in 2016) in Italy. Following the results of the meeting the joint communique was accepted. The parties agreed on the necessity to continue strengthening and developing the relationships.
There was an idea about creation of a Big Russian-Italian Joint Committee working group on trade and economic cooperation of Russia and Italy, including in the field of small and medium business. Such group will strengthen the collaboration of the Russian-Italian Council for innovations and business of the State Duma Committee on economic policy, innovative development and business and RANEPA Russian-Italian center.
