Step-by-step Instruction: How to Create Movie Characters
Participants of RANEPA Summer Campus which runs from July 15 to July 26, attended a workshop by Vladimir Vereshchagin, Vice President of Disney TV and Film Production in Russia and the CIS.
The continuation of the second day of RANEPA Summer Campus was quite unusual – the participants waited for the movie “The Last Warrior”, and before that the lecture from Vladimir Vereshchagin. The invited expert told the participants how characters of world’s favorite movies are created.
Topic of the lecture: “Filmmaking: Great characters and their stories.” “The key thing to remember is that you must believe in your character. You need to imagine the world in which your character lives, because his thoughts, feelings, words and actions will come from there. You should know your character better than yourself,” he said.
Pleasure is the cheapest special effect, as Vereshchagin asserts. In support of his words, he gave examples from some famous movies and simply from life. Indeed, relevant humor can decorate and even save any situation or scene, the workshop participants agreed.
Character, movie or cartoon creation is a quite labor-intensive and time-consuming process. The lecturer revealed the process of creation: firstly, a sketch is drawn, which is then repeatedly amended, refined and checked. A large team works over the entire process of filmmaking.
The organizers of RANEPA Summer Campus include RANEPA, the Government of Tatarstan, and the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia, with the support of ACIG Group of Companies.
