Study of attitude towards technological innovations in different regions of Russia presented at Gaidar Forum

On January 14, representatives of the RVC company, Moscow State University (MSU) and Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES) presented the results of a large-scale sociological research of values and needs of the population in the age of technology and innovation at the expert discussion, Social and Cultural Factors in the Innovative Development of Russian Regions.

The study was conducted in 10 Russian regions and canvassed 6,000 respondents. According to Director of the RVC Innovation Ecosystem Development Department Alexei Gusev, the study generated an important typology of Russian regions, which affects the development of innovative economy.

According to the moderator, Dean of MSU Economics Faculty Alexander Auzan, there used to be very little data to tell how socio-cultural factors affect our lives. “I am very excited today, because the study that will be presented here is something I have dreamed about for years,” he said.

The questionnaire for the survey included four questions that should determine people’s attitude to technology, science and progress. Three questions were used as markers of technological optimism, and the fourth one as a marker of technological pessimism. It turned out that people in Russia show more technological optimism than in Europe, as 85% of Russians believe that science and technology make life easier and more convenient. In the EU, only 66% think so.
