Summer English-language program for high school students at RANEPA
The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) has organized a summer out of town program for schoolchildren aged 13-17, Summer School Liberal arts - a two-week course in English only.
The program took place at the RANEPA Personnel Training Center in Pushkino. The participants were expected to communicate in English not only with teachers and curators (native speakers), but also among themselves. This practice largely contributed to the program’s success.
The students visited special classes and personal growth trainings, competed at recreational sports and other activities. They also met with the heads of RANEPA School of Public Policy.
The participants used English to discuss literary works. Together with university professors, they read The Catcher in the Rye by American writer Jerome Salinger in the original language and analyzed the bestselling novel from the cultural, social, psychological, anthropological and historical points of view.
In addition, the participants of the Summer School Liberal arts program staged and played out Flowers for Algernon in English. They generated their own creative ideas and implemented them in their production, from the stage sets to dialogues.
After the completion of the program, all participants were awarded certificates for a discount on tuition at RANEPA, primarily at the School of Public Policy. Each of them received their Language Portfolio containing their achievements in learning English.
