Vladimir Mau congratulated veterans on anniversary of Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan
On February 15, Russia marked the 28th anniversary of the Soviet forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, an important landmark for 21 RANEPA employees who are Afghan war veterans. Rector Vladimir Mau congratulated the veterans on the occasion.
The Soviet troops were sent to Afghanistan to resolve a military conflict on December 25, 1979. The Soviet Union made this decision at the request of the Government of Afghanistan, as agreed in the Treaty of Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation of December 5, 1978.
Twenty-one members of the RANEPA staff took part in the military operation; three of them were killed in action.
