Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) was established in December 2015 by re-organization of the Russian G20 Expert Council. CIIR research and studies are cross-disciplinary and comprise such spheres as political processes, international relations, global governance, integration processes, and social and economic development.
CIIR mission is to carry out research, implement projects and publish studies on global governance, international relations and development assistance which are recognized at national and international level. CIIR intends to balance its fundamental and applied research, expert, analytical and consultative activities.
CIIR main objectives:
To analyze trends and priorities of international cooperation, the role of international institutions in collective governance at global and regional levels, the influence of international and regional organizations on their member countries’ national policies; to assess the effectiveness of multilateral cooperation mechanisms.
To contribute to the effective engagement of Russian organizations, authorities, research and educational institutions in the activities of international institutions (G20, BRICS, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), regional integration associations and new financial institutions).
To promote an objective perspective of Russia in international educational and research space through research and information exchange with leading think tanks from various countries engaged in international institutions research.
To support integration of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) in research programmes and projects of foreign and international academic and expert organizations, and increase visibility of the RANEPA in international research space through establishing network multilateral research projects, in particular on the G20 and BRICS.
To promote the development of cross-disciplinary research of international institutions with participation of RANEPA students and PhD students, and increase awareness of students and researchers of the RANEPA about developments in these research fields.
CIIR main areas of activity:
Academic and research area includes:
Implementation of international comparative research in partnership with the leading world think tanks. The project “Assessing International Institutions Governance Effectiveness on the Basis of the G20 and BRICS Members’ Compliance with Commitments Made in the Summits” implemented jointly with the University of Toronto is one of the examples.
Publication of research outcomes in Russian and English in editions indexed in Russian and international abstract and citation databases of peer-reviewed literature (Russian Science Citation Index, Scopus, Web of Science and others).
Research and informational area includes:
Information and research support to the Russian Federation Presidential Executive Office, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and other Russian authorities in the sphere of cooperation with international institutions;
Organization of academic and expert events aimed at exchange of research outcomes with leading Russian and foreign think tanks;
Selection of international institutions materials most relevant for Russia, their translation and distribution online and in print (after receiving respective permissions) in Russian educational and research community;
Informing Russian academic and expert community about current activities of international institutions.
Educational area includes:
Engagement of students and PhD students of the RANEPA and other Russian universities in Russian and international research projects to develop their research skills;
Elaboration, publication and distribution online and in print training materials reflecting the results of front-rank Russian and international research.
