Experts summed up results of the first decade of BRICS cooperation and discussed further perspectives of the fora at the RANEPA
The Roundtable under the theme “The First Decade of BRICS Cooperation: Outcomes of the South African Presidency and Perspective of Future Cooperation” was held at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) on 26 September 2018. The event was organized by the RANEPA Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) in partnership with the National Committee on BRICS Research (Russia).
The Roundtable was attended by experts from the leading Russian universities and research centers, namely the RANEPA, MGIMO, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc., as well as representatives of the Russian governmental authorities coordinating the Russian Federation`s participation in BRICS, including Ministry of Economic Development and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The Roundtable was moderated by the Head of the CIIR Dr. Marina Larionova.
The discussion focused on the challenges the BRICS face and objectives for the second decade of its work, in particular strengthening trade and investment cooperation, practical implementation of the Strategy for BRICS Economic Partnership, boosting financial integration, expanding payments in national currencies and increasing the BRICS` role in the international financial system. The participants reflected on the outcomes of the South African presidency and discussed perspectives of the Brazilian presidency in the BRICS.
The outcomes of the long-term research project on monitoring BRICS compliance with the summits` decisions implemented by the RANEPA CIIR jointly with the University of Toronto were presented at the Roundtable.
