Roundtable on the topic: "Role of business in the sustainable development of local communities".
On the 28th of May, Center for Strategic Research held a roundtable on the topic: "Role of business in the sustainable development of local communities", which was attended by representatives of major Russian and international companies, state and municipal authorities, volunteer organizations, city activists.
"The purpose of this event is to link the government, business, NGOs and civil society for sustainable development," said the CSR Project Manager Alena Dolgova in her opening speech. The event was also moderated by Vera Barinova, Deputy Director of the Centre for economic modelling of energy and environment of RANEPA, manager of SDSN-Russia, and Sergey Tsarev, curator of the educational program for management of territorial development (UTRO), which functions on the basis of the MARSH Architectural school and IGSU RANEPA.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed on the opinion that it is not necessary to rely on the authorities, as business, universities, scientific organizations, NGOs can also become stakeholders of changes. To improve the situation in SDGs implementation should be established the dialogue between the active community and the authorities. A common sustainable development strategy would be a good help from the Government towards the implementation of the SDGs at the state level. At the expert level, one of the main problems is to form a common language in discussing sustainable development issues.
The results of the discussion will be taken into account when working with the population and establishing the social policy at the municipal level.
