The Third Annual Meeting of SDSN Russia
On January 17 the Third Annual Meeting ofSDSN Russia took placeat the Gaidar forum. At the meeting, SDSN members discussed the key events of the past 2018, and plans for 2019.
Vera Barinova, manager of SDSN Russia and deputy director of the Center for Economic Modeling of Energy and Environment IAER RANEPA statedthat the past year for SDSN was marked by opening of new offices such as SDSN France and SDSN USA.She also noted that although the SDSN network has been developing quite dynamically, SDSN Russiaexperienced some decline in the number of new members in the past year.
Natalia Ryazanova, head of Geoecology and Sustainable Environment laboratory of MGIMO, spokeabout one of the most outstanding educational projects in the field of sustainable development 2018 - the Floating SDGs University. The essence of the project was that within 100 days from May 19 to September 1, the staff of the Department of ICIE MGIMO performed an interesting scientific and educational mission, conducted field studies of the environment, master classes with teenagers and students, lectures on sustainable development, which eventually covered more than 3 thousand people. The project was subsequently given V. I. Vernadsky award.
Ekaterina Novikova, advisor to the chairman of MGIMO Goes Green organisation and researcher at the Institute of Geography of RAS, summed up the results of the MGIMO environmental club in 2018. The club acted as one of the organizers of the World Water forum model, the Model of the Arctic Council, and alsocarried out a Sustainable Development Week in the University.
The employee of "Russian carbon" fund Anita Mujumdar presented released interactive tutorial «Ecopolis». «Ecopolis» is a set of educational and game materials for schoolchildren on the topic of "Sustainable development", which includes an illustrated guide for students with educational materials, questions and tasks, a set of game survey cards, a poster about the environmental footprint of a person, a poster with tips on how to reduce the carbon footprint and a USB drive with all the materials of the set. The textbook has already been implemented in 100 schools in Moscow and 11 cities of Russia.
Oksana Klimanova, associate professor of the Physical Geography and Geoecology department of MSU, candidate of geographical sciences, spoke about the program of ecological education in Zaryadye Park. Also in her speech, she noted that the theme of ecosystems is best covered in environmental education and it is necessary to restart the urban environmental education by working with children in the framework of existing institutions.
Elena Dolgikh, director general of SGM Agency, presented agency’ key research of 2018, including "Green practices and initiatives in Russian Universities" and the Sustainable Urban Development rating of Russia. According to surveys of private companies on the SDGs, they lack regulatory incentives to engage in the sustainable development agenda.
Stepan Zemtsov, senior research fellow at the Laboratory of Entrepreneurship Research IAER RANEPA, presented the index of inclusive development of Russian regions as an initial project in the preparation of the SDG index for Russian regions (cities).
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their readiness to contribute to the National voluntary review preparation and to increase cooperation for the implementation of the SDGs in the Russian Federation.
