The third annual RANEPA conference on global governance will be organized by the Center for International Institutions Research (CIIR) of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) in partnership with National Committee on BRICS Research with expert support of the G20 Research Group of the University of Toronto and BRICS Research Group.
The Conference will bring together about 50-60 representatives of academic community, think tanks, government structures and business communities of G20 and BRICS member countries.
The rise of new institutions in response to systemic vulnerabilities, strategic power shifts in the world economy and the slow pace of the existing institutions’ reform generated heated discussions over the proliferation of institutions and subsequent global governance fragmentation. At a time when global agenda requires consolidation of international cooperation, multilateral institutions face threats of rising nationalism, protectionism and geopolitical tensions.
These processes have direct implications for the G20 and BRICS agendas. Though essentially different in their missions and collective identities, G20 and BRICS have an important role to play in promoting inclusiveness, legitimacy and efficiency of global governance.
From an academic and practical perspective it is important to reflect on persistent and emerging global governance challenges, threats to multilateralism and G20 and BRICS responsibility, role and agendas for attaining the threefold objectives of generating inclusive growth, achieving Sustainable Development Goals and delivering on the Paris climate agreement commitments.
Objectives of the Conference:
