American academics will take part in 11th Gaidar Forum at RANEPA

Several prominent representatives of American universities will speak at RANEPA as part of the 11th Gaidar Forum on January 15-16, 2020, including Harvard University’s Kenneth Rogoff, Laurence Kotlikoff from Boston University, James K. Galbraith from the University of Texas at Austin, and Yuri Slezkine, professor at the University of California at Berkeley.

Kenneth Rogoff is an American economist and chess grandmaster, Thomas D. Cabot Professor at Harvard University. From 2001–2003, Rogoff served as Chief Economist at the International Monetary Fund. Together with Maurice Obstfeld, he is co-author of Foundations of International Macroeconomics, a treatise that has also become a widely-used graduate text in the field worldwide. Kenneth Rogoff is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Group of Thirty. He is a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Rogoff is among the top ten on RePEc’s ranking of economists by scholarly citations. He is the author of The Curse of Cash and This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly. His monthly syndicated column on global economic issues is published in over 50 countries.

Laurence Kotlikoff is a Professor of Economics at Boston University, Head of the International Laboratory for Fiscal Sustainability Studies at the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy and President of Economic Security Planning, Inc., a company specializing in financial planning software. From 1977 through 1983, he served on the faculties of economics of the University of California, Los Angeles, and Yale University. Professor Kotlikoff has advised world governments, major international corporations, as well as the World Bank, IMF, Bank of England, UNICEF and other international institutions. He is the author of 19 books and hundreds of articles. In 2014, he was named one of the 25 most influential economists in the world according to The Economist.

James Kenneth Galbraith is an American economist, professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin, winner of the Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economics, and author of more than a dozen books. Mr. Galbraith was executive director of the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress in the early 1980s. He chaired the board of Economists for Peace and Security (1996–2016) and directs the University of Texas Inequality Project. From 1993 to 1997, he served as chief technical adviser to China's State Planning Commission for macroeconomic reform.

Yuri Slezkine is a professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a Guggenheim scholarship winner. He has been working at the University of California since 1992. Author of the books The House of Government: A Saga of the Russian Revolution, The Jewish Century, Arctic Mirrors: Russia and the Small Peoples of the North and The USSR as a Communal Apartment, or How a Socialist State Promoted Ethnic Particularism.
