How do you learn to manage a healthcare institution? RANEPA IIM explains

The Institute of Industry Management (IIM) of the RANEPA implements a unique applied Master’s program titled “Healthcare Institution Management”. This is the first and so far the only fully practice-focused program in Russia aimed at developing competencies for managing a healthcare institution, taking into account current trends in the labor market, social change, development of knowledge and digital technology. The RANEPA IIM further details on the process of education.




What makes the program unique?

This is really the first fully practice-focused Master’s program for healthcare institution managers developed in Russia. It is an optimal combination of effective business education technologies, scientific foundation of experienced Academy professors and practical experience of the best healthcare managers. The future Master’s program graduates acquire versatile knowledge in modern healthcare institution management and learn how to apply it in practice.

The Healthcare Institution Management program aims at the development of the competencies required for managers in medicine, taking into account current trends in the labor market, social change, and technological development. Among the topics that students work with are rational use of available resources, development of alternative sources of financing, informatization of the system of management and provision of medical services to the population, creation of conditions for introduction of modern medical technologies.

   



What is taught at the program?

·         Effective management of a healthcare facility (outpatient clinic, hospital, medical center).

·         Financial analysis and modelling of healthcare institutions.

·         Successful management of projects and leading a project team.

·         Organizing and carrying out quality control.

·         Organizing and conducting procurement of medical equipment and medicines.

·         Digital technology integration into all areas of the organization.

·         Using modern methods of statistical processing and data analysis in work.

·         Presenting oneself, one’s own ideas and the results of one’s work in a clear and convincing way.




What will be the title in the diploma?

The diploma indicates the area of training, which is 38.03.02 Management, the title of the program “Healthcare Institution Management” and the qualification of a Master.




How is the training structured?

The program is based on real cases of healthcare institutions, issues of preparation for accreditation and licensing. Master’s students work on solving practical problems of their organizations and create their own projects in their chosen specialized field.

The program includes a diagnosis of managerial competencies of managers, and generate both an individual report and a report describing managerial competencies can be generated. Based on the results of diagnostics, recommendations on the individual development plan of a manager are formed.

The modular content of the Master’s program allows for an individual approach to learning. Master’s degree students may choose to take courses in areas of their interest. Foreign practical training and internships can also be organized.

The program is taught by leading industry experts:

Leonid Pechatnikov, Doctor of Medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Management in Medicine and Public Health at the RANEPA IIM, Honored Physician of Russia, Moscow Government Advisor to the Mayor of Moscow on Social Development;

Evgenia Berseneva, Doctor of Medicine, Head of the Department of Healthcare Organization and Quality Management at the RANEPA IIM, Research Supervisor at Federal State Budgetary Institution National Quality Institute of Roszdravnadzor;

Arkady Goldberg, a member of the expert council on healthcare at the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, advisor to the Rector of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, and Director of the Federation of Laboratory Medicine;

Dmitry Podolsky, Candidate of Educational Sciences, Associate Professor of Management Policy Department of National Research University Higher School of Economics, Chief Specialist of the State Budgetary Institution National Quality Institute of Roszdravnadzor, Head of International Projects of the “Quality Management in Medicine” journal;

Polina Gabai, Lawyer, founder of the Faculty of Medical Law LLC, senior lecturer at the department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Federal Clinical Research Center Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia, member of the Union of Journalists of Russia.

We also have guest speakers, major industry leaders, healthcare executives and medical business founders giving lectures.




Where will the graduates work and what will be their salary?

The Healthcare Institution Management program trains people who will be able to occupy managerial positions in healthcare, with salaries starting at RUB 95000. These are top managers of healthcare institutions, chief physicians, medical directors, heads of departments, chief administrators of medical centers, chief nurses, etc. The aim of the Master’s program is to develop people with medical education into professional managers, to teach them how to work effectively in the environment of constant changes and innovations.
