How Sustainable Development Goals affect business (VIDEO)
On July 20, an expert discussion was held as part of the 8th International Summer Campus on Innovations and trends in business strategies for sustainable development.
The participating experts included Yelizaveta Ustilovskaya, Assistant Manager in the Deloitte CIS Enterprise Risk Services group; Alisa Vasilyeva, Head of Sustainability and Community at Coca-Cola HBС Russia; Ksenia Kosogorova, project manager at MTS Corporate Social Responsibility Department; Olga Sorokina, board member and PR director of the Russian Impact Investors’ Association; and Yevgenia Kuznetsova, Development Director at Young Group Social.
Each of the experts spoke about their activities and how they apply innovations and trends in their work, introducing a new concept of corporate social responsibility, which essentially means that companies take into account the interests of society, taking on the responsibility for any impact their activities have on other interested parties.
Sustainable business development, the speakers emphasized, plays an important role at present. MTS mobile operator, for example, is greatly influenced by sustainable development goals (SDGs). It is the largest initiative in world history aimed at bringing together millions of people from different countries, governments, corporations and the nonprofit sector to resolve highly important problems at the local and global levels. These social, environmental and economic activities are aimed at making our planet better. There are several advantages of the SDGs in business: the direct market opportunities this model offers; brand strengthening and additional competitive advantages; new technology-enriched business models; better internal performance and many others.
Impact Investment is a new tool for expanding the competitive abilities of businesses in product branding, the experts explained. As many as 70% of entrepreneurs can see the effect of Impact Investment. The benefits may be in the socio-environmental sphere, as well as in operating activities. The students actively participated in the discussion with the speakers and asked them many interesting questions.
The International Summer Campus of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) is a unique annual educational project for best students of Russian and foreign universities. The Campus curriculum comprises lectures and interactive sessions with leading Russian and foreign academics, government employees and world-class business executives. RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau, leading Russian and foreign experts, Russian and foreign business leaders, high-ranking officials and civil servants will traditionally speak at the Summer Campus.
