Long-term prospects for agricultural development discussed at Gaidar Forum - 2017
The panel discussion, A Long-Term Strategy for the Development of Agriculture in Russia and the World, during the Gaidar Forum focused on the development of technologies and the choice of priorities for agriculture in Russia.
The meeting was moderated by Natalia Shagayda, Director of RANEPA Center for Agricultural and Food Policy; the participants included representatives of the Russian Government and invited experts.
Evgenia Serova, who heads the Moscow Office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the Russian Federation, said “Russia’s level of hunger is not high compared with the global level, the food sector is on the rise, along with the growing exports, yet there is the lingering crop volatility.”
“We need to export products with the level of technological processing high enough for it to go directly to the store,” Governor of the Altai Territory Alexander Karlin said. “The successful development of the industry over the last 10 years was the result of changing approaches to its management: the government policy was based on strategic planning tool. Over that period, we implemented a national project, developed a state program for agriculture development, and the Food Security Doctrine.”
