Meeting with the delegation of the UAE Ministry of Education
On August 28, RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau met with a delegation from the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates led by the UAE Education Minister, His Excellency Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi.
The meeting was also attended by RANEPA Vice-Rectors Maxim Nazarov and Andrei Margolin, Deputy Director of the Graduate School of Public Administration Olga Udovichenko, Director for Development of International Education and Cooperation Larisa Taradina, Head of the Department of External Relations and Protocol Natalya Demidova, and representatives of the Moscow government.
Vladimir Mau expressed hope for a comprehensive expansion of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, noting the wide range of capabilities of the Presidential Academy at all levels of education. “We can always find something new for students of all ages,” the RANEPA Rector said.
The UAE Minister of Education expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in training personnel for the economy and public service, emphasizing that he sees the Academy as a promising partner for development in this area.
RANEPA Vice-Rector Andrei Margolin spoke about the experience in training civil servants for the CIS countries: “We do not just deliver a course, but we work to improve the investment climate in Central Asia. The development of new educational programs is discussed at a high level at the Gaidar Forum.” He also announced a program for sustainable development, the most important area for modern civil service.
To follow up on this topic, Olga Udovichenko spoke about a unique program, Executive Master in Public Management (ЕМРМ), offered by the Academy and aimed at introducing high-tech business practices into the public administration process. RANEPA GSPA implements distance education programs, as well as provides support and assessment during training and at the end of the program. The students work individually or in a group format, which is convenient for working with integrated teams of structural units.
The discussion was not limited to cooperation in higher and professional education. The UAE delegation also expressed interest in working with the RANEPA Lyceum (high-school program). Vladimir Mau spoke about plans for expanding the Lyceum and modernizing the campus. In response to the Minister’s question about the Academy’s summer programs, Vladimir Mau invited UAE students to participate in the next RANEPA Summer Campus, which will be held in Tatarstan in 2020. The parties agreed to implement joint summer programs in Economics and Applied Sociology.
Another important aspect of the discussion was teaching staff exchange. His Excellency Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi said he hoped teaching staff mobility will expand on both sides. Vladimir Mau supported the initiative and noted that RANEPA Professor Georgi Derluguian, one of the world-famous experts in Historical Sociology, is also a professor at New York University in Abu Dhabi.
Vladimir Mau gave the visitors a virtual tour of the Academy campus and spoke about the development and improvement projects.
His Excellency Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi invited Vladimir Mau to pay an official visit to the UAE. In turn, the RANEPA Rector handed his guest an invitation to take part in the 2020 Gaidar Forum, which will be held from January 15-16, 2020.
