Modernization of the Russian energy industry and the new global energy structure
At the 10th Gaidar Forum, an expert discussion “Modernization of the Russian energy industry and the new global energy structure” took place.
The key topics of discussion about the future of the Russian economy in 2018 included the modernization of the Russian energy sector. The Ministry of Energy has developed a draft resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation “On carrying out of competitive power take-off on reconstruction (technical re-equipping, modernization) of thermal electric stations”, according to which investments in the reconstruction of TES will be involved in Russia in 2021-2030. The government supported a developed bill on micro-generation. Also over the past year, a mechanism has been developed to support renewable energy sources (RES) for the period of 2025-2035.
According to Oleg Barkin, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the NP Market Council Association, the modernization of the Russian energy sector allows for the maximum expansion of the boundaries of the renewable energy support mechanism.
Vladimir Potashnikov, Senior Research Fellow, Center for Economic Modeling of Energy and Environment, IAER RANEPA, said: “In all scenarios of the equilibrium model, coal is forced out, gas is also most effectively forced out, and the share of sun and wind is growing.”
Dmitry Vakhrukov, Director of the Department for State Regulation of Tariffs and Infrastructure Reforms of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation: “All trends in the Russian energy sector have three key factors: climatic conditions, cross-subsidization in the energy sector, and the price of electricity for the consumer.”
The priorities of the new investment cycle in the Russian power industry are put at the forefront in discussing the modernization of the Russian power industry. According to experts, the energy transition within Russia is possible in the near future, but many projects have to be implemented in order to solve this problem properly.
This discussion is another confirmation of the global capital work of specialists in the issue of the Russian energy sector and the reformation of the energy sector of Russia.
