New Year Ball, the most magical day
On December 23, RANEPA held one of the brightest and most heartwarming events of the year – the annual New Year Ball. For the first time, the event was moved to a venue outside the Academy – the Crystal Ballroom in the Moscow City international business center.
The New Year Ball has a different theme each year. Among the last ones were The World of Harry Potter, Masquerade, Alice in Wonderland, A Journey into the Past, and the famous Soviet film The Irony of Fate. The theme of this year’s gala event was a mixture of classical and Baroque circus.
The guests included best students from the 11 RANEPA schools who distinguished themselves throughout the year in their studies, sports and extracurricular activities, as well as representatives of the management; first-year students danced at the ball as debutants.
The participants were required to comply with a formal dress code: black tie for men and evening gowns for women. Throughout the evening, the participants shared the results of the outgoing year, and the atmosphere of the coming New Year reigned in the room. At the entrance, the participants could take pictures with actors dressed in fabulous Baroque style masquerade costumes.
Vice-Rector Ivan Fedotov, Acting Director of RANEPA Institute of Industry Management (IIM), greeted the participants: “The New Year Ball at RANEPA is the most beautiful, the best and the most heartwarming event organized by the Academy's Youth Policy Directorate. I wish you all success next year, and I think all those present are successful people. I would also like to wish you a little bit of luck in all your plans, and good health – to you and your loved ones.”
The ball opened with a classic dance performance by students, followed by a diverse entertainment program, which included a fascinating acrobatic show, a cryo-show with fire effects, which also involved students, and a juggler’s performance. The audience was delighted with the shows.
The guests were happy to join in the lottery and photo contest. During the intermissions, students were offered refreshments including cotton candy and popcorn. The guests’ dance performance left a wonderful impression, followed by a bartender show in which the students were also involved. The bartender worked wonders, and even taught the participants some simple tricks. The debutants performed truly fascinating dances, which they had practiced to perfection over the past two months.
The final part of the gala was a live performance by Maria Tsvetkova's cover band and a special festive soap bubble show. By tradition, one of the most memorable evenings in RANEPA student life closed with a disco.
Several students shared their impressions of the past event. Among them are first-year students of the Graduate School of Corporate Management (GSCM) Maria Kardanova and Anton Vlasov, and freshman of the Institute of Economics, Mathematics and Information Technologies (EMIT) Yelizaveta Lyubeznaya.
Maria: Many of us are in bad need of a festive mood during the season of difficult tests and dull everyday life. The organizers of the ball gave us a chance to be in a fairy tale, just for one day. As a child, watching cartoons, I dreamed of becoming a princess and go to a real ball. Now my dream has come true. This is the meaning of the event for me. And I have met incredible people! The New Year Ball is the best completion of the outgoing year!
Anton: I would say that, first of all, it is a meeting place for students of the Academy. The event has brought together those who have shown their worth in different areas of activity. Here such people can make new friends and useful contacts too.
Yelizaveta: The New Year Ball is the most magical event at RANEPA. Everyone wants to be here. The debutants put so much effort into the preparation of the ball, so that the guests plunge into the New Year fairy tale. I think this is the reason they select debutants so carefully.
