RANEPA faculty member appointed Special Representative of European Public Law Organization in Russia and CIS
President of the Board of Directors of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), Dr. Spyridon Flogaitis, has appointed Valery Smirnov, head of the department for international cooperation and foreign students at RANEPA’s Institute of Law and National Security (ILNS), Special Representative of the EPLO in Russia, CIS and EAEU.
The appointment followed a discussion of Mr. Smirnov’s nomination at the EPLO Board of Directors meeting in Athens on September 8. The new position has been established by the BoD decision to intensify EPLO’s contacts with the government bodies and universities in Russia and former Soviet states.
Established in 2004 at the initiative of the governments of Italy, Greece, France and Cyprus, the European Public Law Organization is the only international organization headquartered in Athens. Former Italian Prime Minister Giuliano Amato (1992–1993, 2000–2001) serves as the Honorary President of the Board of Trustees of the European Law and Governance School (ELGS), a special agency under the EPLO. He and French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing were the architects of the draft European Constitution.
