On July 14, the International Summer Campus of the Presidential Academy hosted a lecture by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Archives of the Republic of Komi Sergei Yemelyanov, Innovation in Culture: Global Trends. Yemelyanov is 26, and was appointed minister at 23. The interactive meeting went on in high gear.

Culture is among the National Projects, which plays an important role in its interaction with other spheres of life, Sergey Yemelyanov explained emphasizing the significance of the project approach in culture. He also highlighted the key points of this approach in Russia and explained how they can be applied.

According to Yemelyanov, Russian culture is a uniquely established global brand, which is one of its natural strengths. Nevertheless, there are a number of problems that need to be resolved in the near future: often substandard or dilapidated facilities and equipment and a low level of training of specialists.

The speaker also gave the students some practical advice on how to achieve success of their project, citing personal examples. According to Yemelyanov, identifying the target audience is an important step when creating a new product.

The year 2018 was declared a year of culture in the Komi Republic to draw the local residents’ attention to the problems in this sphere. A large number of cultural events took place in the region, with 150,000 people attending. The next step would be to double this number by the end of this year, thereby approaching 50% of the total adult population of Komi.

The expert answered the students' questions. They were interested in the vector of further development of Russian culture on a global scale and, of course, they asked Sergei Yemelyanov to share the secrets of his own success. The lecturer advised the participants not to be afraid and just pursue their goal.
