Russian delegation led by Rector Vladimir Mau visits Vietnam
The Russian delegation led by Rector of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration Vladimir Mau has attended the First Forum of Rectors of Russian and Vietnamese Universities in Hanoi.
The forum was held at the National Economics University (NEU) in Hanoi, which trains specialists, middle managers and senior executives for the Vietnamese government, conducts research and provides consultations.
Vladimir Mau took part in the opening ceremony and delivered a report, Outlines of New Scientific and Educational Cooperation, at the plenary session. The opening ceremony was attended by Russian and Vietnamese officials including Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Alexei Medvedev, Deputy Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam Le Hai An, Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov, and head of the delegation of Vietnamese rectors, NEU President Pham Hong Chuong .
Speaking before his Vietnamese colleagues, Vladimir Mau emphasized that working on the formation of a unified educational space between the two countries is not limited to the institutionalization of academic mobility flows. “It is important to actively use academic diplomacy, to build a personnel reserve, to educate talented young people dedicated to strengthening human relations,” he said. “Russian students are increasingly discovering the rich Vietnamese culture. I am sure that the events planned for the cross-year project between our countries will add a new bright page to the history of Russian-Vietnamese relations and will serve to strengthen our comprehensive strategic partnership.”
The Presidential Academy has signed cooperation agreements with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Hanoi University of Law and National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). At the recent meetings, agreements were also reached on cooperation with the Academy in the preparation and advanced training of managerial personnel for Vietnam, the implementation of joint research and educational programs and projects, and participation in scientific conferences.
Overall, RANEPA has trained about 1,000 Vietnamese citizens (starting with the Academy of Social Sciences under the CPSU Central Committee). One of its graduates is Nguyen Phu Trong, active President of Vietnam and Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. At present, there are students from Vietnam in the Moscow campus of RANEPA, as well as in its St. Petersburg, Volgograd, and Khabarovsk branches. As many as 6,000 Vietnamese are studying in Russia, and more than 70 Russian universities cooperate with Vietnam.
The forum was attended by the presidents of leading Vietnamese universities interested in educational and research cooperation with Russian higher education institutions. The First Forum of Rectors of Russian and Vietnamese Universities is an important milestone in the development of bilateral cooperation in education and science.
The Forum of Rectors of Russian and Vietnamese Universities is the first event of the Russian-Vietnamese cross year project launched during Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official visit to Russia on May 20-23 and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2020, the two countries will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
