How to start your own business? Where to begin? What to look for? Co-founder of the BASH Today event venue rental service Yefim Kolodkin has shared some answers with the RANEPA Summer Campus participants.
The speaker presented a step-by-step guide on finding and choosing one’s own niche in business. The first step is to identify a problem and check whether it only concerns you or other people as well. The next step, Kolodkin explained, is to identify the target audience, by analyzing the market, paying attention to its size and competitors. The main thing at this stage is to create a Unique Selling Proposition (USP), the expert emphasized.
He went on to describe each step toward starting a business. First, one needs to go through all the stages the client would. Second, focus on what brings the most money. In addition, the speaker advised the future business leaders to carefully select their staff and support those who have been with them in difficult times. Correctly prioritizing, finding partners, building a strong team are the key components of a successful business, said Yefim Kolodkin.
Speaking about investment, the expert said one should rather avoid people who are far from the sphere in which the business is planned; according to him, it is important to find those who have already encountered similar problems. Talking further about building a strong team, Yefim Kolodkin stressed that the leader needs to be honest with their team if they want good work and results. He recommended using Trello – a program for managing projects in a group, which helps build a team and integrate its work.
Yefim Kolodkin also recommended the participants to build a transparent system of bonuses and motivation incentives and not be afraid of making mistakes. He ended his presentation with an important message: do not be afraid of turns on your way; do not be afraid of trying new ideas. The students listened very attentively to the lecture, and asked the speaker a lot of questions.
