Summer Campus: The digital transformation in Russia
On July 17, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Diginavis, member of the Innopolis Supervisory Board, former Minister of Communications and Mass Media (2012-2018) Nikolai Nikiforov shared his views on modern development trends with the Summer Campus participants.
“I hope that my life story will inspire you too,” Nikolai Nikiforov began. He explained to the students that one should not just consider some ideas and projects, but always try to bring them to life. He spoke about his own career, noting that he was very lucky with his mentors, including President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
The launch of a 4G network and a chain of postal banks were the past seven years’ important landmarks in the development of the digital economy, Nikolai Nikiforov said adding that the digital economy’s contribution to GDP increased from 1% to 5% in 2012-2018. Digital transformation is fast. “Everything you think about in your freshman year is likely to become obsolete by the time you graduate – technologies are developing so fast,” Nikolai Nikiforov said. The speaker also advised students to try to concentrate on an idea and make a real prototype as quickly as possible.
Speaking about the projects he is involved in, Nikolai Nikiforov highlighted the work on unmanned vehicles and robots that are going to make construction much faster and cheaper. At the end of the meeting, he discussed with the participants the ideas for their projects at the Summer Campus, offered some advice on their implementation, and answered their questions.
