Vladimir Mau participates in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum
On June 16-18 the XX St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), one of the largest international economic forums in Russia took place. RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau participated in the event.
On the first day of SPIEF, Vladimir Mau was a participant in a panel discussion entitled “Features of the Budget as an Economic Policy Tool”. Presenters included Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE) President Alexander Shokhin, Chairman of the Russian Audit Chamber Tatiana Golikova, cochairman of the Central Headquarters of the All-Russian People’s Front, Alexander Brechalov, and others. During the discussion, the participants considered the role of the state budget in national policy. The efficiency of budget spending is a key mechanism for implementing economic policy for any state. The speakers discussed the priorities of state spending on the basis of monitoring the effectiveness of the use of budget funds. The role of supreme audit institutions in the budget process and other issues were determined.
On the second day of the forum, Mau participated in a panel session entitled “Presentation of the Russian Regional Investment Climate Index.” In 2016 RANEPA together with the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) launched a new educational project for directors of Russian regions. This program is aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of the regions and the replication of best practices. Director of RANEPA’s Center for Regional Development Ilya Syomin spoke about the tasks and initial results of the educational module, “Administrative Skill: the Development of Regional Teams”, which ended in May. The following participated in the panel discussion: Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, Presidential Aide Andrei Belousov, Deputy Chief of the Government Staff Maxim Akimov, ASI CEO Andrei Nikitin and others.
On June 17 Mau was on the panel for a discussion on “The Transformation of the Chinese Economic Model”. Panel participants discussed the impact of changes in the structure of the Chinese economy on the global economy as a whole.
Vladimir Mau signed an agreement on the cooperation of RANEPA and the Russian Agricultural Bank. It was planned to sign a trilateral agreement on RANEPA’s cooperation with the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia and the Federal Corporation for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises.
