Vladimir Mau speaks at EDCRUNCH 2019
On October 1, RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau took part in the EdCrunch 2019 global conference on digital innovations in education.
The sixth international conference brings together experts from the global educational, research and business communities. This year’s theme was training personnel for the digital economy, and the Presidential Academy was the general partner of the event.
EdCrunch identifies the technological leaders in educational and outlines a strategy for digitalizing the educational environment for a year in an open dialogue between educational institutions, developers of technological solutions and government officials.
Vladimir Mau spoke at the Q&A session Inflection Point: From Human Capital to Human Potential. The participants discussed ways to bridge the gap between the education system and the labor market, the steps universities need to take to keep pace with technological development, and the difference made by collaboration between leading universities, departments and businesses.
The RANEPA Rector talked about the risks of using artificial intelligence. “A person should not shift the responsibility for their decisions to artificial intelligence, no matter how smart it is,” Dr. Mau said adding that technology should never be blamed for failures: it is the human who made the decision who is to blame for it, and the influence of artificial intelligence will always be secondary.
Special Presidential Representative on Digital and Technological Development Dmitry Peskov highlighted the need to define standards and approaches to digital transformation, which currently influences all spheres of life. Deputy Education Minister Marina Rakova noted that today and every new day we make choices. Chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation Arkady Dvorkovich pointed out that people have to change to meet the requirements of the new digital reality. This means a desire to learn is something that should be first and foremost instilled in children, added Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Anton Alikhanov.
The session was attended by representatives of Russian and foreign educational and technology companies.
EdCrunch 2019 takes place on October 1-2 at the World Trade Center. The conference will be attended by RANEPA Vice Rector, Acting Director of RANEPA Institute of Industry Management (IIM) Ivan Fedotov; RANEPA Director for humanitarian policy Alexander Asmolov; and Maxim Dulinov, Director of the Federal Institute for the Development of Educational at RANEPA.
